Our Story

Eight Decades of
Community & Faith

Ontario Community Church began in 1945 as a gathering place for Japanese-American families in Eastern Oregon. Through decades of change, growth, and challenge, we've remained anchored to our founding purpose: sharing the love and hope of Christ with everyone.

Today, our congregation reflects the beautiful diversity of our region -- many ethnicities, backgrounds, and generations worshiping together. We honor where we came from while staying focused on where God is calling us.

Core Beliefs

What We Believe

At Ontario Community Church, all of our beliefs are rooted in the Word of God. Pastor Patrick uses the OIA Method -- Observation, Interpretation, Application -- in every sermon and teaching.

About God

God is the Creator, Ruler, and Sustainer of the universe.
Genesis 1:1, 1 Chronicles 29:11, Psalm 104:24, Colossians 1:16-17
There is only one true, holy God; He exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- each fully God yet personally distinct.
Matthew 28:19, John 1:1, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 3:16-17
God has a profound love for humankind and has initiated a plan enabling us to live in personal relationship with Him.
John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:4-5, 1 John 4:9-11

About Jesus

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man.
John 1:1, Philippians 2:6, Colossians 2:9, Hebrews 1:3
Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all by dying on a cross.
Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Isaiah 53:5-6, 1 Peter 3:18
He arose from the dead on the third day to demonstrate his power over sin and death.
1 Corinthians 15:20, Romans 1:4, Luke 24:6-7, Acts 2:24
He ascended to Heaven and will return again to reign in ultimate supremacy forever.
Acts 1:10-11, Revelation 22:20, Philippians 2:8-9, Revelation 19:16

Holy Spirit

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all equally God.
2 Corinthians 13:14, Acts 5:3-4, Matthew 3:16-17
The Holy Spirit is the agent of regeneration and renewal, and lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.
John 3:5-6, Titus 3:5-6, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Romans 8:9
The Holy Spirit provides the ability to live a life that honors God and the power to be Christ's witness.
Galatians 5:16-18, Acts 1:8, Romans 8:14, John 14:26

Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God to sinful humankind.
Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23, Titus 3:5, John 3:16
We can never make up for our sin through self-improvement or good works.
Isaiah 64:6, Galatians 2:16, Romans 3:20, Romans 4:5
Salvation must be personally appropriated by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
Acts 20:21, Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6, Acts 16:31

The Bible

The Bible was written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21, 1 Corinthians 2:12-13
All 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are our only infallible authority for faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:16-17, Psalm 19:7-11, John 17:17
Scripture is to be interpreted in context, in reverent obedience to the Lord who speaks through it.
2 Timothy 2:15, Psalm 119:105, Hebrews 4:12

The Church

There is one true Church -- the body of Christ -- comprised of all who acknowledge Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Ephesians 4:4-6, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Colossians 1:18
Believers are to gather in local congregations for worship, instruction, fellowship, ministry, and outreach.
Hebrews 10:24-25, Acts 2:42, Matthew 28:19-20
Through Baptism and Communion, Christ-followers publicly celebrate their conversion to Christ and His grace.
Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:4, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The 3E Pathway

Encouraging, Equipping, and Engaging Lives for Christ

Our Mission

The 3E Pathway is our
mission, vision, and discipleship process.

At OCC, we don't just believe in transformation -- we have a clear process for how it happens. The 3E Pathway shapes everything we do, from Sunday morning to everyday life.

Encourage

We encourage love for God and others, grounded in Biblical truth and Christ's teachings -- through intentional worship and a welcoming culture.

John 13:34-35, Mark 12:30-31, Ephesians 4:2-3

Equip

We equip people on a path of spiritual growth through studying scripture, community life, small groups, church membership, and discovering spiritual gifting.

Hebrews 4:12, Colossians 3:16, 2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 12:2

Engage

We inspire congregants to reach their God-given potential by serving others and sharing their faith -- in the church, the community, and beyond.

Community Prayer

The Power of Prayer

How We Pray

Prayer Changes Everything

At OCC, prayer is our lifeline -- not a formality. We believe it is the foundation of our worship, decisions, relationships, and outreach. "Pray without ceasing." -- 1 Thessalonians 5:17

🙏

Supplication

Bringing our personal needs and requests to God with faith. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation present your requests to God." -- Philippians 4:6

🙌

Praise & Worship

Adoring God for who He is, not only for what He does. Praise shifts our focus from our circumstances to God's greatness.

❤️

Intercession

Praying on behalf of others -- family, friends, the church, and our community. "Pray for one another, that you may be healed." -- James 5:16

🤝

Confession

Coming to God honestly, acknowledging our failures and receiving His grace. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us." -- 1 John 1:9

📖

Thanksgiving

Expressing gratitude to God for His faithfulness and provision in all circumstances, not just the good ones.

🕊️

Listening Prayer

Being still before God and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak. Sometimes the most powerful prayer is quiet openness.
